ARTIST STATEMENT

My illustrative paintings and drawings are a view of the moment- to capture the essence of the person, animal, or object (sometimes with a bit of whimsy). I like to fill up the space to bring the viewer closer to the piece. This approach stems from my background as a printmaker and poster designer. This background established my unique visual style that blends the primitive art style with impressionism.

My painting and drawing style matured into a more representational language focusing on actual subjects. Acrylic painting, ink and color pencil are my mediums of choice currently.

I have been a printmaker, graphic designer and sign artist for most of my life and now enjoy developing my new direction of illustrative work.
